Hi, friend! Autumn has finally arrived, and I love every little thing about it — even the rainstorms that will eventually come. But mostly, I love that it's getting colder, crisper, and more orange. This also means that pumpkin season is here, and so is spoOoOOooky season (Let’s call it a season, so we can fully enjoy it from mid-September until the end of October).
Speaking of Halloween, I made a drawing for you and waited to post it until now... because it’s the perfect season for sharing pumpkin pictures. It's part of the Mice in Things Doing Stuff series, of which I might do a few more for Christmas, but as I said... first things first: Spoooooky season!
Greetings from the Autumnal Countryside
Aka... I Told You There Would Be Pumpkins (Plus a Bonus Quince Fruit Tree)
If you’re not a fan of pumpkins, feel free to skip ahead. Ever since the first pumpkin plants started popping up this year, I’ve been taking pictures of the nearby fields to document their progress. But, as is often the case with on-the-go mobile pictures, most of them didn’t turn out great. Still, I managed to get a couple of good ones. I also snuck in a picture of a quince fruit tree because it looked so beautiful (at least I think they’re quinces).
Other than that, September has been quite busy with book work and drawings and final preparations and writing (nice segue…).
On Business, Books, and Crayon Drawings
Plus, One Last Pumpkin... for This Letter
In the last letter, I mentioned that I would be traveling to Switzerland for business. Well, I did. And the best part is, it felt like the business was more pleasure than work. I visited my dream publisher there. I’ve wanted to work with them ever since I first met one of their editors in 2018, and now, dear friend, it’s finally happening. I’m so excited that I can hardly find the words to express how happy I am. Meeting the amazing people who work there was immense fun, as each and every one of them was fantastically kind, interesting, and lovely. I can’t share details about the projects just yet, but I’ll definitely post updates here once they’re available. I’m holding back from saying more about it, to savour this feeling of bliss a bit longer.
Aside from that, I’ve been craving more than just digital drawing lately. It’s been a while since I’ve used crayons for anything beyond rough sketches, so I bought some new pencils and sketchbooks and started drawing just for fun again. Oh, and yes... there’s a pumpkin. And a spider. And a skull on a bottle.
To bring some order to the chaos in my pencil drawer, I decided to create a little overview of all the colours and their names, so I can easily see what they look like on paper. This might seem like a bit of a crazy task, but it was fun, and it actually looks pretty cool. And the best part: now I can just look at the chart to see which colours I want to use and combine without spending time searching.
Mr. S. — There Will Be Cats.
Why not make it a tradition that I share a Mr. S. moment with you? Here he is, in all his full and utter greatness. He is wonderful. Just look at him being wonderful.
Now, dear friend, I guess this was the September letter. I’m excited to see what October will bring, as it’s one of the loveliest months of the year. I wish you a wonderfully spooky season. Oh, and… BOO! 👻🎃🦇🕷️🕸️🐈⬛🔮
Stay spoOoOOOooooky and cool,
Tini
